Actress Taapsee Pannu recently appeared on a popular show and made a few hard-hitting comments about noted Telugu director K Raghavendra Rao. She recalled being hit on the midriff with a coconut while shooting for ‘Jhummandi Naadam’ and said that she still does not know why the filmmaker felt that it would come across as sensuous.

“I don’t know what is so sensuous about hitting a girl on her midriff. But the director who has made over 100 films has launched Sridevi and Jayasudha. They were apparently hit by flowers and fruits on their midriff,” she added.

Moreover, the star stressed that there was a perception in the South that she can only essay glamorous characters on the big screen.

However, according to her, things changed once she did ‘Pink’ and ‘Naam Shabana’ Well, these are some strong words indeed and could create quite a buzz in the industry.

In case you did not know, Jhummandi Naadam’ was the first film of Taapsee’s career and featured her in the role of an NRI. Produced by Lakshmi Manchu, it also featured Manoj Manchu in the lead.

Interestingly, this is a busy time for Taapsee. She will soon be seen in ‘Anando Brahma’. Touted to be a horror comedy, it also features Vennela Kishore in the lead and will hit screens next month.

Besides this, she has ‘Judwaa 2’ in her kitty. In it, she well be seen alongside Varun Dhawan and Jacqueline Fernandez. The film is an action-comedy and has been directed by David Dhawan.

Ms Tapsee, you need not tell sorry to Mr Raghavandra Rao. Tapseeji! you are perfectly alright. you have guts to say the fact. As you rightly told, women is no way connected with coconuts and apples.
Mr Raghavandra Rao has been doing lot of injustice to the women of India, by objectifying the heroines, especially in songs.
Mr R Rao,! you are saved, because you have escaped the view of Women Organizations in Telugu states till now. You should feel ashamed for the injustice you have done to the women of this country, including your mother. Your movies are socially irrelevant as they don’t have any message to society. Dr Dasari Narayana Rao, Amar Hi. He was the great director who directed/ built excellent socially relevant movies. Hats of to Dasari Sir.

She is right and ppl need to really take this in the right way, its sense of humor that ppl often don’t have.
Also, if you work in a company as an intern, that doesn’t mean you won’t say joke about or tell your not so positive experiences about it. She is a new comer and had to do those movies to survive, its ok look back and reflect and talk about them. Nothing wrong!

Yes Tapsee is right. He is the most vulgar director and he thinks he’s artistic. In my opinion he’s not fit to make Main stream movies !!!!

Mr.Rao , there is a thin line between sensuous and seriously vulgar. Ms.Pannu was spot on.

I totally agree with her. Its truly disturbing about the way that guy directs heroines. However, it was her choice to do such movies and no one forced her to do such films. I understand that she was a struggling new comer but its hard to buy it coz all of her movies down south are such c-grade stuff.

Why are you shaming a woman who has only just spoken her opinion? She didnt judge or say anything negative about the film/director. I have seen the whole episode and EIC is a comedy collective. The whole talk was in intention of humor. Why do we judge women so harshly for having an opinion and voicing it? That too in comedy. This shaming needs to stop. Using capital letters only shows how irrational your hatred is.

Sridevi has been acting since she was 4 years old, Raghavendra rao was no where then. Taapsee was nothing but a item role in telugu films, she used the medium to make money and now doing hindi films. She is pointing fingers at the industry that gave her many chances when all she did was be a prop to the actors.

She is getting a lot of flak for this, but personally, I agree with her. Mr. Rao might be a legendary director, but his treatment of women in songs is not sensuous at all, rather uncomforting. I heard that it was his influence that was behind the Pacha Bottesina song from Baahubali, where Tamanna’s navel was shown in close-ups every ten seconds.

Haha…as a kid watching some of the movies by Raghavendra Rao made me so uncomfortable. The songs are almost borderline vulgar.
